Shane Hernandez for State Rep
Shane Hernandez is a Conservative Republican serving in his first term as the 83rd District State Representative. His background is in the architectural field where he spent 11 years working at a small firm in Port Huron, MI. Shane did not work his way up through the elected ranks, but became known an the area through his work as a political activist and a community leader.
As a Republican Party leader and conservative activist, Shane has not been afraid to take a stand for conservative principles. Under his leadership as county party chairman, the party passed resolutions against Common Core, Medicaid Expansion and ANY Gas Tax Increase.
Shane also took a leadership role in St. Clair County when it came to opposing the May 5th, 2015 tax increase placed on the ballot by Lansing legislators. His activism included radio interviews, a community forum with the St. Clair County Road Commissioner and a rally along Pine Grove Ave in Port Huron. The proposal was defeated 80/20 statewide, but with the extra work done in St. Clair County, the results were 89/11.
Shane is currently serving in his first term in office and is the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation. He is passionate about using every dollar as effectively and efficiently as possible to help solve Michigan's road situation. The 2017-2018 budget includes nearly $10 million additional to roads that was found through administrative efficiencies. It also includes the sale of 1 of the 5 MDOT owned airplanes along with language requesting that the department seek out options to privatize the remaining portion of their fleet.
